Learn what CS really is and how to embed concepts into your existing classes through a week-long PD near you! Week-long PD for elementary teachers and all librarians to bring CS into already established disciplines for an integrated approach to CS. Openings increase to 80 in 2022.

Participants - Open to K-8 Teachers and School/Public Librarians.
Week-long summer camp for elementary students and teachers with a dedicated computer science rotation. Last year the rotation focused on Micro:bit technology and programming. Funded again (by MilliporeSigma), TACoS is slated to run Summer 2021.

K-12 Education Subsection | PI – Burrows | July 2018-2023
The 20M EPSCoR Microbial grant contains a K-12 outreach portion led by Burrows. She
coordinates five projects a year for the K-12 subsection including:
1) Art and Science microbe project
2) Secondary science pre-service teacher lesson planning utilizing the Data Discovery
Tool
3) Secondary science pre-service teacher microbe lesson/activity implementation in
Spring
4) Summer camp session on microbes
5) K-12 teacher professional development regarding microbes, field work, and the Data
Discovery Tool

A NSF and NSA funded cybersecurity camp called COWPOKES is Wyoming’s cybersecurity camp champion. With 10 teachers and 60 students in two locations, Laramie and Riverton, the camp branched focus on key cybersecurity principles (outlined by the NSA). It was focused on computer science as much than programming in the cybersecurity realm. The K-12 teachers created K-12 lessons that incorporated computer science and cybersecurity into their classrooms in a variety of subjects.
