Tim Fischer is the Program Manager for Oil & Gas in the Center for Economic Geology Research at the School of Energy Resources and is on the Advisory Committee for the joint EPE-SER Multidisciplinary Advanced Stimulation Laboratory.

 

Fischer earned a B.A. in History from Northwestern University, a B.S. in Geology from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Geosciences and Biogeochemistry from Penn State University. In his early career, he worked as a journalist before taking a position as a post-doctoral researcher at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He joined Chevron in 2012, holding multiple research positions and ultimately served as a senior research petrophysicist.

Throughout his professional life, Fischer worked extensively on unconventional reservoir assets with special areas of interest in petrophysics, reservoir characterization, and core-petrophysical integration. He is also a subject matter expert in minerology, with a focus on clay minerology.

In his role at SER, he manages the team of researchers focused on enhancing oil and gas recovery in Wyoming, and in particular, oversees the interdisciplinary resarch dedicated to unlocking the Mowry Shale formation.
