Charles Nye is a Senior Research Professional and Project Manager specializing in Geochemistry at the School of Energy Resources (SER). He is affiliated with both the Hydrogen Energy Research Center and the Center for Economic Geology Research.
Nye has been with the School of Energy Resources since 2015. His research experience includes studying uranium in-situ mining, industrial waters, and rare earth elements, with work encompassing experimental design, geochemical reactions, isotope groundwater tracing, and beneficial use of waters. He specializes in soil and water geochemistry and has served as a task lead or Principal Investigator on several grants.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Saint Olaf College and a master's degree from the University of Wyoming in Geology.
Nye has been instrumental in securing significant grant funding for SER. His work on major grants includes serving as a co-principal investigator on a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) award to lead a collaborative project integrating produced water thermal desalinization with hydrogen production. He also played a key role in the Wyoming CarbonSAFE project, installing soil gas monitoring systems to assess the feasibility of subsurface carbon storage in the Powder River Basin. Additionally, Nye also leads the Williams Echo Springs CarbonSAFE Project in Southwest Wyoming.
