Pokes Transfer Commitment

NON-RESIDENT and international | TRANSFER STUDENTS

This information is for the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 academic year. Unless otherwise noted, awards listed are for the academic year and not by semester.

The University of Wyoming wants non-resident and international transfer students to know that finalizing their four-year degree is within reach. We are proud to offer the Pokes Transfer Commitment, a financial pledge that benefits incoming non-resident and international students who transfer to the University of Wyoming. This commitment is a merit-based financial pledge determined by a student's cumulative transfer GPA. It is offered as a placeholder and will be funded with individual scholarships that are made possible through the generosity of UW Foundation donors and/or other institutional aid. Funding of this commitment is contingent on the completion of the general application and any applicable recommended applications within WyoScholarships.

Please note: All University of Wyoming financial awards are only available to eligible admits. The awards are subject to available funding and the approval of the UW Board of Trustees; they reserve the right to change said rates at any time.

What are the Minimum Requirements?

3.0+ Cumulative Transfer GPA

Available to first-time, entering non-resident and international transfer students seeking their first bachelor's degree.

GPA is calculated using grades earned in credits taken at previous institutions.

Transfer credits must be a minimum of 12 completed post-high school.

Award Levels:

Cumulative Transfer GPA Annual Amount
3.00 - 3.30 $2,000
3.31 - 3.84 $4,000
3.85 - 4.00 $6,000

Next Steps

  • Apply for admission and submit the non-refundable $40 admission application fee.
  • Submit official college transcripts.
  • Students selected to receive the Pokes Transfer Commitment must confirm their enrollment at UW:
    • August 1, 11:59 p.m. MDT - for students beginning in the fall semester.
    • January 5, 11:59 p.m. MST - for students beginning in the spring semester.

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid will consider the final cumulative transfer GPA for new first-time transferring students for a potential increase in commitment award level. To be considered, official transcripts must be received no later than the first day of class of your incoming semester. This applies to students who have confirmed enrollment by the above deadlines. Increases are subject to available funding.

Renewing Requirements

This Commitment is renewable for up to 6 semesters (3 academic years) or completion of first bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.

  • Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative UW GPA (evaluated at the end of each spring semester).
  • Students must maintain full-time continuous enrollment (a minimum of 12 semester hours) during the fall and spring semesters, with successful completion of a minimum of 24 credit hours each academic year.
  • Study abroad students must be in a 4001-level study abroad course, with tuition billed by UW for their commitment or scholarship to pay. If you enroll in a non-exchange program, you will waive that semester of commitment eligibility.
  • Eligibility for the commitment will be reviewed at the end of every spring semester; therefore, enrollment during summer session(s) following the spring review is not included.
  • If the commitment is lost for not maintaining minimum requirements, it cannot be reinstated even if the requirements are met at a later date.
  • Details regarding the requirements to receive and renew the Pokes Transfer Commitment (the Terms & Conditions) are included in the scholarship letter that is mailed to transfer student for their first year.

Other Non-Resident Transfer Awards

  • Nebraska Residents - you may qualify to receive the Nebraska Transfer Award*.
  • WUE States - you may qualify to receive the WUE Transfer Award*.
  • SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) Students - you will be awarded if you meet eligibility requirements.

Please note: The Nebraska Transfer Award and the WUE Transfer Award will no longer be available beginning in Academic Year 2025-2026. Current recipients and/or recipients currently deferring either award will be permitted to complete their remaining terms of use in accordance with the award Terms & Conditions.
