Instrumentation

Our lab consists of 4 Thermo isotope ratio mass spectrometers, with a collective 8 peripheral elemental analyzers, thermal conversion analyzers, gas-benches, and a gas chromatograph with combustion/pyrolysis module. These monolithic analyzers are sensitive and robust, allowing for a variety of applications. 

Elemental Analyzer Instrument
EA-IRMS

Elemental analyzers are used for organic elemental analysis of Nitrogen, Carbon, and Sulfur, using the Dumas Method.

Temperature conversion elemental analysers are used to analyze isotope ratios of hydrogen and oxygen in solids and liquids. 

Gas Bench Instrument
GB-IRMS

GasBench-IRMS is used to measure isotope ratios of carbonate, nitrate dissolved in water, air, and dissolved inorganic carbon.

CRDS

A Picarro L2140-I Cavity Ring Down Spectrometer is used to measure the isotope ratios of hydrogen and oxygen in water.

Gas Chromatograph Instrument
GC-C-IRMS

Compound specific isotope analysis (CSIA) analyzes isotope ratios of carbon and hydrogen in specific compounds through the use of gas chromatograph separation coupled to either combustion or pyrolysis interfaces.
