2026–2027 School of Computing Faculty Fellows Program
Overview
The University of Wyoming School of Computing (SoC) invites proposals for the 2026–2027 Faculty Fellows Program. The program supports projects that advance computing research, learning, and engagement at the University of Wyoming while aligning with the School of Computing's mission to serve as a computational hub for the university.
Computing is foundational to nearly every discipline, influencing research, scholarship, creative activity, teaching, and engagement across the sciences, engineering, humanities, arts, education, business, health sciences, and public policy. The Faculty Fellows Program seeks to support innovative projects that expand computing capacity, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and create new opportunities for students and faculty across campus.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, the School of Computing will support two Faculty Fellows awards:
- One award for a faculty member in a STEM discipline.
- One award for a faculty member in a non-STEM discipline.
Awards are intended to support projects that advance computing in meaningful and sustainable ways within the applicant's discipline and the broader UW community.

Previous Faculty Fellows Awardees:
2025-2026 Faculty Fellows
The SoC's solicitation for the 25-26 Faculty Fellows received 32 applications from 5 different colleges and 22 unique departments/units. Each proposal had thorough review by a diverse group including research scientists, faculty, staff, and students. Review criteria and funding decisions were made according to criteria listed in the call for proposals, with an emphasis given to projects without other funding options that included some form of student engagement and support. Eight projects were funded from seven unique departments/units.
2024-2025 Faculty Fellows
The School of Computing solicitation for 2024-2025 Faculty Fellows received 31 applications from 19 units across campus. Each proposal had three reviews and was then discussed in a computationally diverse faculty panel. Review criteria and funding decisions were made according to criteria listed in the call for proposals. Fourteen projects were funded from thirteen different departments. We were particularly pleased to see an increased number of proposals from the humanities where the use of artificial intelligence is impacting research methods.
2024-2025 Faculty Fellows (PDF)2023-2024 Faculty Fellows
The School of Computing received 48 proposals for the 2023-2034 Faculty Fellows solicitation. Proposals came from 25 different units in 7 different colleges and administrative units. While most proposals were from CEPS and ALSNR we were particularly pleased to receive proposals from the humanities, performing arts, business, education, and health sciences. Energy, biology, and astrophysics were the top domain areas that proposals covered. Data science, modeling and simulation, AI/ML/Computer Vision were the main computing areas submitted. All proposals received 3 peer reviews using the criteria stated in the call for proposals and considering any conflicts of interest. Proposals were then discussed in a panel, with the panel ranking each proposal as highly competitive for funding (fund if possible), competitive for funding (unlikely to have funds but fundable), or less competitive for funding (will not be funded). Funding allowed us to award 16 proposals from 14 unique departments. See awardees linked below. Congratulations to all!
2022-2023 Faculty Fellows
The School of Computing at the University of Wyoming received 34 applications for the 2022-2023 Faculty Awards that support research, teaching and engagement activities connected to advancing computing across the university. The School of Computing identified several criteria that proposals for Faculty Awards should meet to have priority for funding. These include alignment with university initiatives and state priorities, building new opportunities or capacity in computing, impacting student experiences and learning, advancing the school in its initial phase of development, and contributing to the value of computing for all. The selection committee awarded 16 faculty (linked below) from five different colleges and twelve different departments. The School of Computing is proud to have such a diverse group of faculty members who bring unique perspectives and knowledge to their teaching, research, and engagement. The School of Computing congratulates all the faculty members who have received funding for their projects, and thanks them for their contributions to the advancement of computing at the University of Wyoming.
