Cowboy Coaches

Meet Your Peer Mentors

Our peer-mentoring program is made up of current students called Cowboy Coaches! These peer mentors bring a deep understanding and perspective to our students who may need a little extra help, friendship or mentoring. While all first-year students will be assigned a Cowboy Coach, all students are welcome to book an appointment with a coach. We also have Transfer Cowboy Coaches to give a tailored experience to the robust community of transfer students at UW!

Our mentors are matched with other students based on a variety of traits including areas of study, personality, social factors, and more. The Student Success and Graduation Hub provides our coaches with a high level of training to ensure each mentor can take a solution-based and empathetic approach when working with their peers. Cowboy Coaches are supervised by our staff in the event a student is in crisis and requires additional resources from licensed professionals. Students can also get rewarded for meeting with Cowboy Coaches as part of the Cowboy Card.

Transfer Cowboy Coaches

At UW, we understand the unique challenges transfer students face. That's why we have Transfer Cowboy Coaches—trained peer mentors who have experienced the transfer process themselves. These coaches provide personalized support, helping you navigate life at UW and beyond. With their solution-based and empathetic approach, you'll always have someone to turn to. Plus, our coaches are backed by the Student Success and Graduation (SS&G) staff, ensuring you have access to additional resources if needed.

Cowboy Cards

Let us tell you about the Cowboy Card -- a list of five to-dos throughout the semester that will both put you on the path toward a successful semester and reward with you a swag bag filled with awesome UW gear! To claim your prize pack, be sure to complete the five "objectives" by Nov. 18 and return it to the Student Success and Graduation Hub at Old Main Suite 101. All tasks must be signed by your Cowboy Coach, professor or academic advisor (depending on the task).

 

While the Cowboy Cards will be distributed at Saddle Up, all UW students are welcome and encouraged to participate! Whether you've lost your Cowboy Card or weren't at Saddle Up to receive one, you can drop by the Student Success and Graduation Hub at any time to grab a new card and begin checking off boxes!
