UW Commencement…or is it Graduation?
Graduation or Commencement? Is there a difference?
While these terms are often used interchangeably, they actually refer to two different things. Graduation signifies that you’ve successfully completed all the requirements for your degree—it's an academic achievement. Commencement, on the other hand, is the formal ceremony where graduates celebrate this major milestone, often marked by walking across the stage. In short, graduation is the completion of your studies, and commencement is the ceremony that honors that achievement.
So, whether you call it “graduation” or “commencement,” we are proud of you and have all the details you need to know!
