About the B.A. in European Language, Literature and Film Studies
UW’s European studies program offers an interdisciplinary exploration of European language, literature and film. You’ll take 30 credit hours of language study in French, German or Spanish. The remaining curriculum includes flexible course options, some of which are offered bilingually.
Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to get involved in everything UW has to offer. From student-led clubs to study abroad programs, the Department of Modern and Classical Languages is here to help you get the most out of your college education.

This major is accredited by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language (ACTFL), meaning it achieves the gold standard for language education. You can rest assured that you’re receiving the highest quality language courses available.

What can you do with a European studies degree?
A degree in European languages, literature and film is a great introduction to a variety of exciting careers that require global perspective, language skills and strong communication abilities. Nope! While studying abroad is encouraged to really embrace the culture you're spending so much time getting to know, it is not a requirement.
