There are several recognized student organizations affiliated with the department. If you have an interest in foreign languages and culture, we invite you to get involved in one of these clubs. You do not need to have a major or minor in the department to participate.

Sigma Delta Pi

Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, recognizes college students who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language, linguistics, literature, and cultures, and who are committed to understanding the Hispanic world. UW’s chapter (Alpha of Wyoming) was formed on April 27, 2001; over 600 chapters now represent colleges and universities across the US and Canada. The chapter advisor for the honor society is Professor Conxita Domènech.

ASIC promotes cultural diversity in the community. Some events include: the annual Chinese New Year celebration, Chinese New Year music concert, East Asian dance and symposium, and Chinese movie night. Students, professors and other interested German speakers gather to practice their German and keep up with current events in German-speaking countries while enjoying coffee and cookies. Participants often play Scrabble to help build vocabulary skills. For more information, please contact Rebecca Steele.

Undergraduates, graduates and professors practice their French in a casual, light-hearted atmosphere. For more information, contact Bénédicte Sohier.

This club is open to any student with an interest in the Spanish language and the cultures of the people who speak it. It was founded by Marisa Moret in 2015. RSO page for Wyoming Spanish Club.

Members of the Laramie community are invited to come practice their Japanese speaking with other japan-loving individuals, regardless of language level.
