About the Petroleum Engineering Program
Level up your future by applying for the quickstart program in petroleum engineering. This program is designed for high-achieving undergrads who are ready to pursue their master’s degree. In your senior year, you’ll begin taking master’s courses that apply to both degrees. A maximum of 6 credit hours of courses at the 4000 or 5000 level may be counted toward both the undergraduate and MS degree requirements, subject to the approval of the student's advisor and the Graduate Coordinator.
Expect to take foundational petroleum engineering courses, as well as advanced graduate
courses of your choosing. Graduate course topics include flow through porous media,
fundamentals of enhanced oil recovery, and rock mechanics. If you decide to add a
specialization to your degree, you’ll take additional coursework in energy, drilling
engineering, blockchain or data science.

Students can apply for the quickstart program during the second semester of their junior year. To qualify, you must complete core petroleum engineering courses, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and a major GPA of at least 3.5.
There are several scholarships available through UW, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, as well as the Petroleum Engineering department.

The University of Wyoming's petroleum engineering program is proudly accredited by the global leader in ensuring high-quality standards for applied science, engineering and technology education, ABET. ABET ensures our program and the Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering meets academic and industry standards, which in turn prepares our students with necessary skills to succeed in the highly competitive energy industy.
