UW Campus Master Plan Wins Honorable Mention from International Group

A new 20-year master plan for the University of Wyoming campus has been recognized by the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).

The master plan, created in conjunction with the Sasaki consulting firm, received honorable mention in SCUP’s “Excellence in Planning for an Existing Campus” competition. UW finished behind only one other university in that category.

“The plan reflects the university’s mission and identity as the only public higher education institution in the state; is rooted in place; modernizes the campus; complements and physically translates the strategic plan; carefully stewards resources; and articulates goals and principles for physical planning that aid decision-making and project prioritization,” SCUP says of the UW master plan.

The plan was developed in a yearlong process that included input from various stakeholders on campus and around Wyoming. It addresses a range of topics, including academics and research; student life and housing; landscape and open space; sports and recreation; mobility and access; and parking and infrastructure.

The plan takes into account UW’s next major construction project -- the building of two new residence halls west of 15th Street and a new Ivinson Parking Facility -- but looks much further into the future at potential facility additions and renovations.
