The University of Wyoming’s Community Band and Symphonic Band will perform “From Film to the Shires of England” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets for the UW Department of Music-sponsored fall concert are $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts. The concert also will livestream at https://youtu.be/jBbi3M2oG_Y.

The program will feature a variety of music from traditional band literature to contemporary works, including a John Philip Sousa march.

The Community Band, conducted by Robert Belser, will present “The Thunderer March” by Sousa; “From Shire and Sea” by Albert Davis; “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” arranged by Steve Rouse; and “Moscow, 1941” by Brian Balmages.

The Symphonic Band, conducted by Joseph Carver, will present a program featuring new wind band compositions: Jennifer Jolley’s “Ash”; William Pitts’ “Revelry”; and Cait Nishimura’s “Chasing Sunlight”. Amber Sturdevant, the McMurry graduate teaching assistant, will lead the Symphonic Band in Percy Grainger’s setting of the English folk song “Green Bushes.”

Music from the movies will round out the program. The Symphonic Band will perform music from “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” and the Community Band will perform a collage of spooky music from Danny Elfman titled “Music for a Darkened Theatre.”
