English Pianist Andrew Harley in UW Music Residency March 7

Internationally acclaimed performer Andrew Harley will be in a collaborative piano residency March 7-10 with the University of Wyoming Department of Music.

Public events include a vocal collaboration master class from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, and a collaborative recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10. Both events are free and open to the public in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Harley, an English pianist, has had a successful performing and teaching career, leading to his current position as director of piano accompanying and chamber music degree programs at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Specializing in instrumental chamber music and song literature, he has played on national radio and television, as well as on numerous recordings.

For many years, Harley was a member of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet, performing about 40 different programs each year. For the past two decades, he has been a member of the Kamp-Lintfort International Chamber Music Festival, collaborating with many of Europe’s finest musicians.

Harley began his musical studies at Manchester, England’s famous Chetham’s School of Music and continued his education at the University of Oxford and the Royal Northern College of Music. Since immigrating to the United States, he also studied at the University of Southern California (USC).

He has held a variety of positions at the University of California-Los Angeles; the USC Thornton School of Music; the University of California-Santa Barbara; the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; and the Juilliard School in New York City.

Harley has taught summer programs at the Aspen Music Festival and School for two years as associate director of the Collaborative Piano Program and the International Institute for Young Musicians for five years as director of chamber music.

As a guest artist, Harley has given master classes at the New England Conservatory and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England; the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany; and Indiana University-Bloomington. As a performing artist, Harley performs around the world, collaborating with distinguished recital partners such as international opera stars J’Nai Bridges, Denyce Graves, Eric Owens and Susanna Phillips; American cellist Lynn Harrell; and members of the Cleveland, Juilliard and Talich quartets.

The musician has appeared on many world-renowned stages such as Carnegie and Wigmore halls; the John F. Kennedy Center; the Southbank Centre in London; the Robert-Schumann-Saal in Düsseldorf, Germany; and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Harley also has performed with Graves at the U.S. Supreme Court honoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
