UW Department of Music Presents ‘Ghostly Romanticism for Strings and Piano’ Jan. 22

The University of Wyoming Department of Music presents faculty ensemble members Theresa Bogard, piano; James Przygocki, viola; and Sherry Sinift, violin, in concert with guest cellist Hu Sisi Sunday, Jan. 22.

“Ghostly Romanticism for Strings and Piano” will take place at 3 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature Beethoven’s “Ghost Trio” (Piano Trio, Op. 70, No. 1) as well as Schumann’s Piano Quartet, Op. 47.

Bogard, UW professor of piano, is a versatile performer dedicated to expanding the canon of traditional piano repertoire. Internationally known as a pedagogue, she has been honored with numerous teaching awards, including Wyoming Professor of the Year (2008) by the Carnegie Foundation. She has served on the faculties of the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Germany. Bogard has served as an adjudicator at numerous piano competitions and is a Steinway Artist.

An active performer as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player, Przygocki is a professor and chair of UW’s string area, where he teaches viola, violin, and music education and pedagogy. He serves as principal violist with the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, teaches at the String Academy of Wyoming and served for several years as UW’s String Project director. In the summer, Przygocki serves on the faculties of the Indiana University Summer String Academy and the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colo.

Sinift recently retired as the longtime administrative coordinator of UW’s String Project, where she also served as an adjunct faculty member. She performs with the Summit Chamber Players, directs the String Academy of Wyoming and teaches private violin lessons. In the summer, she serves on the faculty of the Indiana University Summer String Academy.

Sisi has served as a lecturer in cello and chamber orchestra in the School of Music at Shanghai University since 2006. She also is the director of the Shanghai Musician Association Cellist Specialty Committee. As a member of the Shanghai University Chamber Orchestra, she has performed and competed both in China and abroad.

She has a master’s degree in cello performance and education from the Central Conservatory of Music in China and a Ph.D. in communication from Shanghai University. Her scholarly work includes two books and several professional papers.
