Jim Fish, the CEO of WM (formerly Waste Management), will speak at the University of Wyoming Wednesday, March 29, as part of the new UW College of Business Speaker Series.

The free public talk begins at 3:15 p.m. in Room 123 of the College of Business Building. It will take place in a fireside chat format with UW College of Business Dean Scott Beaulier, followed by a question-and-answer session with attendees.

WM is a Fortune 500 company with a mission to maximize resource value while minimizing environmental impact so that both the economy and the environment can thrive. Its consolidated subsidiaries provide collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services. The company also is a leading developer, operator and owner of waste-to-energy and landfill gas-to-energy facilities in the U.S.

“With our revamped MBA program and focus on professionalism throughout our curriculum, we are thrilled to be hosting a Fortune 500 CEO in Jim Fish,” Beaulier says. “Under Jim’s leadership, Waste Management has emerged as a leader in sustainability, healthy corporate culture and retaining employees. Our discussion will be a wide-ranging one that friends of UW won’t want to miss.”

Before becoming CEO, Fish held various positions with the organization, including senior vice president for the company’s Eastern Group; area vice president for Pennsylvania and West Virginia; market area general manager for Massachusetts and Rhode Island; vice president of price management; and director of financial planning and analysis.

Fish holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Arizona State University and an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago.

This year’s College of Business Speaker Series will conclude April 11 with a visit from Nicholas Sly, vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. These events are supported by a generous gift from the Dimitrios Smyrnios family.
