Guest Artist and Pianist Antonio Soria in UW Residency March 9-10

Guest artist and pianist Antonio Soria will be in residence lecturing and performing at the University of Wyoming Department of Music Thursday and Friday, March 9-10.

Soria will lead a piano master class at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9; he will discuss “Characteristics of Spanish Music” at 1:10 p.m.; and will follow with a free public recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 10, all in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

The recital program will feature works for piano by Spanish composers Antonio Soler, Manuel de Falla y Matheu, Joaquín Turina, Xavier Montsalvatge, Manuel Castillo and Arturo Moya.

The winner of the International Musical Performing Competition “Paper de Música de Capellades,” Soria is a concertist and professor of piano, chamber music, organ and musical language at the Superior Conservatory of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain.

He performs in recitals and solo concerts throughout the world with such organizations as the Moscow Kremlin Chamber Orchestra; the Leos Janácek Chamber Orchestra; Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra; State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico; Greensboro Philharmonia; Orchestra della Magna Grecia; Orchestra Pistoiese Promusica; Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato; Cappella Istropolitana; Nordharzer Städtebundtheater Orchestra; and Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse.

Soria has been invited to teach various international musical performance classes as well as master classes at prestigious conservatories. He was the creator and artistic and academic director of the Oropesa del Mar International Music Festival; has chaired the Fundación Sociedad de Conciertos de Albacete since 2000; and serves as artistic and academic director of the Higher Institute of Language and Musical Interpretation.

He also serves as a jury member in several national and international competitions; is the director of the International Congress of Pedagogy and Performative Research and Musical Creativity; is a disseminator and researcher; and is the author of hundreds of articles published in media around the world.
