UW Jazz Combos to Perform April 19

The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Jazz Combos will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert also will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMJWNUF5Ggk.

The program will open with UW Jazz Combo IV, directed by Micah Miller, a UW music major from Casper, performing music by Sonny Rollins, Jule Styne, “Fats” Waller and Sid Wyche.

UW Jazz Combo III, directed by Seth Lewis, a Department of Music double bass lecturer, will follow with music by Kenny Barron, Donald Byrd, Bronislaw Kaper, Ned Washington and James Williams.

UW Jazz Combo II, directed by Ryan Fourt, a Department of Music jazz guitar lecturer, will perform music by Kaper, Wes Montgomery and Horace Silver.

Closing out the concert will be UW Jazz Combo I, directed by Department of Music Associate Professor Ben Markley, director of Jazz Studies, performing compositions by Markley, Wayne Shorter and Jimmy Van Heusen.

The UW Jazz Combos focus on the art of improvisation as individuals and as ensembles. With the guidance of faculty coaches, students also prepare and perform their own compositions and arrangements throughout each semester.
