UW School of Energy Resources Seeks Energy and Environmental Systems Director

The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) is seeking applicants from current UW faculty members to serve as the director for the energy and environmental systems concentration in the Energy Resource Management and Development (ERMD) undergraduate degree program.

The appointment will be effective this July and correspond with the academic year at UW. As director of energy and environmental systems at SER, a successful candidate would receive a stipend of $10,000 per fiscal year to provide administrative support to students in the concentration and to facilitate connections between students and professional organizations and potential employers in the field.

The ERMD program is designed to meet the needs of the energy industry. Through a combination of rigorous academic training, hands-on scenarios and internships, students prepare for essential roles in industries such as oil and natural gas, renewable energy and mining. Students take a core curriculum focusing on business, natural resources, law and policy, project management, and rangeland ecology and watershed management. The program offers two concentrations for specialization, professional land management or energy and environmental systems.

“We have experienced a high rate of success for students in the public land management concentration of the program, which has benefited from a program director for the past decade,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “By modeling the energy and environmental systems concentration after our public land management program, we anticipate that students will gain the same guidance and direction for potential careers and exposure with industry professionals, and that the program will continue to thrive and grow.”

The energy and environmental systems concentration trains students to work within energy production and reclamation, with a major emphasis on the sustained stewardship of air, land, water and ecological resources. More information about this academic program can be found here, and the full call for applicants can be downloaded from the SER website.

Interested candidates should have experience in related fields and must be full-time UW faculty members. Those seeking consideration for this position should email a one-page letter of intent and a current CV to Danaei at kdanaei@uwyo.edu by May 26.
