    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

David Fall, of Gillette; Kermit Brown, from Laramie; Laura Schmid-Pizzato, of Rock Springs; and Jim Mathis, from Wheatland, were appointed by Gov. Mark Gordon to serve on the UW Board of Trustees, according to The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T). They were confirmed recently by the Wyoming Senate.

The CS-T cited an analysis by Scott Thomas, the John P. “Jack” Ellbogen Dean of the UW College of Education, in an article that focused on why many public school teachers are leaving their education jobs each year. Mark Perkins, a UW assistant professor of educational research, provided comments for the article. Perkins conducted a teacher attrition study of Wyoming teachers last year.

Members of UW’s Artificial Intelligence Chatbots Working Group discussed with The Wyoming Truth their plans to publicly issue recommendations on student and faculty use of chatbot software and artificial intelligence.

Coin Market Bag featured cryptocurrency expert Caitlin Long, CEO of Custodia Bank and UW alumna, in a segment on the latest developments of cryptocurrency titled “She Warned Them About Big Crypto Fraud.” Long helped the Wyoming Legislature develop today’s cryptocurrency laws in the state.

UW researchers Selena Gerace and Jessica Western were interviewed by Wyoming Public Radio to discuss their updated survey that now finds Wyoming residents favor natural gas as a future source of energy most and carbon capture least.

Laramie Live reported that the public is invited to view the features of a solar-powered home southwest of Lander next month. UW’s release noted the home represents the entry by a team of UW students in an international competition to design zero-energy buildings. Laramie Live also published UW’s release announcing that the UW Art Museum’s annual gala fundraiser is next month at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center.

Wyoming Dementia Together -- a statewide, nonprofit caregiver network offered through UW’s Center on Aging (WyCOA) -- has begun its third year of helping families throughout the Rocky Mountain region care for loved ones with dementia. Sheridan Media published UW’s release.

The Sheridan Press published UW’s announcement that self-measured blood pressure monitoring kits are available for checkout at libraries in Sheridan, Clearmont, Story and Tongue River as part of a WyCOA program.

KNEB Radio published a story that featured BAST Manufacturing, one of the winners of the recent IMPACT Goshen County Start-Up Challenge. The challenge is supported by UW’s IMPACT 307.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and The Cheyenne Post published UW’s release noting that UW Extension will host the Wyoming Bee College and High Plains Garden to Market Conference later this month at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.

Tongue River Middle School students are competing this week in the Wyoming State Science Fair on the UW campus, according to The Sheridan Press.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release announcing that UW Extension 4-H educators will host a virtual career fair later this month for Wyoming youth.
