Janet Phillips

Janet Phillips

Janet Phillips is a wife, mother and farmer. She and her husband farm and ranch in Cherryvale, Kansas. Both Janet and her husband Caleb have ties to farming and ranching industries. Janet earned her B.S. in Agronomy at Missouri State University in 2005.

Together, they established Show-Me Kansas Farms. Janet says, this is what you get when a Missouri girl marries a Kansas farm-boy. From Southeastern Kansas, Janet has been actively sharing their life on the farm through social media since 2009. Three years ago, her family decided to sell their home-raised beef directly to the consumer and uses social media to market it and actively share life on the farm.

Janet and her husband Caleb raise corn, wheat, soybeans, and cattle on their family farm near Cherryvale, KS. They farm with Caleb’s father and grandfather, each farm operating financially independently but sharing in equipment and workload.

Over the past decade, Janet says the family farm has been blessed with opportunities to grow, tripling in size, but always staying true to their roots as a family-owned business. She is passionate about caring for her land and animals, and producing safe and healthy food is a top priority on her family’s farm.

When she takes a break from working around the farm, Janet enjoys cooking, photography, blogging, running and gardening.

Janet joined the CommonGround™ Kansas team in fall 2017. She enjoys having conversations with grocery shoppers who want to better understand how their food is raised and take the fear out of food choices.

Janet has expertise in Sustainability and Conservation, Animal Ag/Antibiotics, Hormones (in meat and milk), and Family Farms vs. Corporate Farms. Her ag connections include: American Farm Bureau Federation, and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
