Beef Research Unit:
The LREC beef unit houses cattle with research projects on grazing, feed lot, reproductive physiology, nutrition, and meat sciences. In 2022, a high-altitude bull test was initiated to evaluate bulls for their predisposition to High-altitude Pulmonary Hypertension, also known as, “brisket disease” The unit is also used for teaching, livestock and meat judging, and production of hay and market cattle.

Sheep Unit:
The sheep unit consist of 350 head of sheep. Research projects conducted within this unit include, reproductive physiology, nutrition, genetics, meat science, and general sheep production. Each year the Ram Test is conducted at LREC in collaboration with the Wyoming Wool Growers Association.

Swine Unit:
The Laramie Research and Extension Center houses a the 307 Elite Swine unit that is used for teaching, research, livestock judging, and marketing of high-quality swine. This unit is heavily used for instruction and allows the University of Wyoming students to have access to the major production livestock species.
