Graduate school can be a challenging time for many students, especially those from diverse communities. The Diverse Graduate Student Network is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all graduate students. Through our programming, we aim to provide opportunities for students to connect with others who share similar experiences and challenges, as well as to learn from each other and build a sense of community. Our goal is to create a space where all graduate students feel valued, supported and can thrive academically, professionally, and personally. \
The decision to earn a graduate degree is pivotal for students. We know the journey can be challenging. However, obtaining a graduate assistantship offers students an opportunity to gain experience in their field while also receiving funding to support their goals.
Graduate assistants play a crucial role in the academic community. They are typically responsible for assisting faculty members with their teaching duties, conducting research, and performing administrative tasks. In addition to providing support to professors and staff members, graduate assistants also have the opportunity to develop their own skills and knowledge in their field of study.
While graduate assistantships can be highly competitive, they offer a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and make important connections. Moreover, the financial support provided by an assistantship helps to offset the cost of tuition and other expenses associated with graduate education.
GRADUATE STUDENT NETWORK
The Graduate Student Network on campus is a peer-group of grad students dedicated to providing opportunities for graduate students. The GSN provides networking events, as well as academic support events such as "write-ins" to help graduate students focus on projects.
