Spencer Holtz

In my research I use model organisms to ask questions about how spatial dynamics affect the evolution of populations. Specifically, I am looking at how range shifts and expansions can reduce genetic diversity, fitness, and adaptive potential of populations. My biggest career focus is currently on college level teaching where I am working on creating instructional strategies that align learning goals with assessment and pedagogy. I hope to use active learning to teach students how to do science and also how to view and appreciate the world through the lens of scientific inquiry and exploration.
