Voices in the Field 2025 Impact
In 2025 Voices was held in two separate locations and helped cater post-secondary programming to more than 500 high school and middle school students.
Voices History:
Malinda Garcia developed the framework for Voices in the Field during her time at Wind River High School in Fremont County School District #6. At this time she connected with then Partnership Director Dr. Leslie Rush to bring faculty to present on the Wind River Reservation and the first Voices day of programming was held in 2020.
Capstone Element:
In October during each academic year, seniors in the capstone class would meet with professionals in various fields to learn about what educaiton and skills are needed for specific career tracks. Through this engagement, there is a focus on professional leadership and personal development that is a key distinction between Voices in the Field and your standard career fair.
Presenters:
Professionals are asked to lend their expert voices and the students are the audience willing to ask the needed questions to gain deep insight on career paths of interest to them. Examples of presenters include: community college personnel, professors, vocational occupation experts, and employees of any community, private, or government role to name a few.
Student Autonomy:
In 2025 the Voices planning group decided to try something new and developed student advisory committees. Through these committees Rock River and Whiting high school students connected, collaborated, and developed Voices in the Field 2025 for their fellow students. The Voices framework was enhanced through their leadership and by giving them a voice in the planning process.
