Take Control of Your Health

Since 2015, the University of Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA) has offered a suite of health education programs called Healthy U. Healthy U workshops are national, evidence based programs that have helped over half a million participants nationwide play a more active role in managing their health. In Wyoming, Healthy U workshops are offered free for all participants in settings like medical centers, senior centers, public health organizations, subsidized housing, assisted living communities, colleges, and wellness centers. These workshops include the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Diabetes Self-Management Program, Cancer: Thriving and Surviving, and Tomando Control de su Salud (CDSMP for Spanish speakers).

What is Healthy U?

What do Healthy U workshops look like?

All Healthy U workshops meet once a week for six weeks. Sessions are up to 2 1/2 hours long and can be in-person or online. Workshops are led by a pair of "Leaders" that have completed 26 hours of instruction to facilitate the program. Each week participants will explore self-management topics like: Action Planning, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Communication, Exercise, Nutrition, Medication Management, and others. Program sessions are highly participative; mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. This mutually supportive format makes the program especially effective and helps participants develop lasting support networks.
