Barrett Dedication

Please join the University of Wyoming College of Law and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit for the dedication of the College's judges' chambers in honor of Judge James E. Barrett. The dedication will take place Friday, August 16th, at 11:00 AM in the College of Law Large Moot Court Room in Laramie. James E. Barrett, a University of Wyoming College of Law Distinguished Alumni recipient and Honorary Order of Coif recipient, was a sole practitioner and prosecuting attorney in Lusk, Wyoming. He served as Wyoming Attorney General, judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, and judge of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review in Washington, D.C.

The Judge James E. Barrett Summer Trial Institute Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life and career of The Honorable James E. Barrett. 

The Scholarship, made possible by the generous financial support of many contributors, will be used to financially help students participating in the Summer Trial Institute. The College of Law will award scholarships to Summer Trial students in need of financial aid. In addition to the scholarship fund, the Judges Chambers in the new College of Law moot court room will be named in honor of Judge Barrett. The Chambers will house highlights from his impressive career.

The Summer Trial Institute is an intense two-week Trial Advocacy course. The faculty includes leading trial attorneys from across Wyoming and around the country. This “learn by doing” course provides law students with the opportunity to learn trial skills from practicing attorneys, judges, and College of Law faculty. 

Support for this fund will help to continue the legacy of Judge Barrett and the tradition of premier trial attorneys in Wyoming.
