These organizations are not endorsed by The School of Politics, Public Affairs, and international Studies -- think of them more as "jumping off" points to kickstart your job search! Please do due diligence when investigating and researching these opportunities.

 

Internships

Ashoka - Ashoka's mission is to shape a citizen sector that is entrepreneurial, productive and globally integrated, and to develop the profession of social entrepreneurship around the world. 

Center for Strategic and International Studies - CSIS is a nonprofit, bipartisan organization that serves as a strategic planning partner for the government by conducting research and analysis and developing policy initiatives that look into the future and anticipate change.

Community Connection International - The goal of Community Connection International is to connect communities to their potential.  CCI focuses on providing aid for people in need in exchange for community service.  CCI also emphasizes skill shares, asking that both visitors and locals mutually share their strengths and talents with each other to connect humanity to its potential. Location of projects is in the Dominican Republic.

Council on Foreign Relations - the Council on Foreign Relations is an independent and a nonpartisan center for scholars dedicated to producing and disseminating ideas so that policymakers, journalists, students, and interested citizens in the United States and other countries, can better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other governments.

Council on Hemispheric Affairs - is a nonprofit, independent research and information organization that promotes the common interests of the hemisphere, raises the visibility of regional affairs and works to increase the importance of the inter-American relationship, as well as encourage the formulation of rational and constructive U.S. policies towards Latin America.

Cross Cultural Solutions - More than 10,000 volunteers have participated in Cross-Cultural Solutions programs around the world and each volunteer has had the opportunity to work closely with local people and experience volunteering in a new way.

Deb Palmieri Russia LLC and Institute, Honorary Russian Consulate - The internship program provides young professionals interested in US-Russian business, economic and foreign relations the opportunity to work on individual and group projects in this field, and to gain professional experience and insights to further their career aspirations.

Foreign Policy Association - The Foreign Policy Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the American public to learn more about the world. Founded in 1918, FPA serves as a catalyst for developing awareness, understanding of, and providing informed opinions on global issues. Through its balanced, nonpartisan programs and publications, the FPA encourages citizens to participate in the foreign policy process. Internships available in New York City.

Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) - IGES is a research institute that conducts pragmatic and innovative strategic policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

International Service Learning Alliance (ISLA) - ISLA offers volunteer and internship opportunities in the areas of environment, youth development, education, health and business. ISLA is committed to the principles of sustainable community development. Currently there are community projects in Ghana, India, and Bulgaria. ISLA is based in Fort Collins, CO.

International Student Conferences - is a non-profit organization which operates educational and cultural exchange program for university students from the United States, Japan and Korea.

Iracambi - Amigos de Iracambi is a Brazilian non-profit association whose vision is to see thriving communities living sustainably in a thriving landscape. The association's mission is to work with the community to make the conservation of the forest more attractive than its destruction. The association does research and public policy work. Public policy work ranges from participating in the State Environmental Policy Commission to work with local and regional tourism associations and the Rosario da Limeira county sustainable development committee.

Korean Economic Institute - is looking for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in Asia-Pacific issues, especially Korea. Students have a unique opportunity to be integrally involved in the inner workings of an international government policy institute.

Mike and Maureen Mansfield Foundation - promotes understanding and cooperation among nations and peoples of Asia and the United States. The Foundation sponsors exchanges, dialogues and publications that create networks among U.S. and Asian leaders, explore the underlying issues influencing public policies, and increase awareness about the nations and peoples of Asia.

National Security Archive - The National Security Archive is an independent, non-profit research institute and library, is offering internships to students who are interested in international relations and how the U.S. foreign policy bureaucracy functions.

Natural Capitalism Solutions - Natural Capitalism Solutions' mission is to educate senior decision-makers in business, government and civil society about the principles of sustainability. Natural Capitalism Solutions shows how to restore and further enhance natural and human capital while increasing prosperity and quality of life. In partnership with leading thinkers and groups, Natural Capitalism Solutions creates innovative, practical tools and implementation strategies for companies, communities and countries.

Nest - Nest is a nonprofit dedicated to identifying and collaborating with responsible artisan businesses through the provision of customized capacity building programs to enable each enterprise to become profitable and have a significant positive social impact. Nest has searched globally to identify a network of existing artisanal workshops that have strong leadership, are scalable, and can transform their communities in one of three ways: alleviate poverty, empower women, and promote peace. Through a participatory model, they work with the artisans to provide the services they need to both preserve and enhance artistic traditions and increase their ability to meet the capacity and quality demands of the exporting marketplace.

NGO Abroad - NA provides frugal, customized international volunteer options and helps people enter international humanitarian work. Volunteer opportunities include: women's rights and building a girls' school in Africa; community development in Nepal; gleaning the lessons from development success in India; democracy building and human rights - Africa; community development in post-conflict Africa; conflict resolution in post-conflict Africa; literacy and "post traumatic" journalism in refugee camps; AIDS education; trafficking; education, health & community development in Andes; human rights and AIDS in Central America.

Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe - OSCoE is the world's largest regional security organization.

SEWA - The Self Employed Women's Association is a trade union and organization of poor, self-employed women workers. These are women who earn a living through their own labour or small businesses and do not obtain regular salaried employment with welfare benefits like workers in the organized sector. They are the unprotected labour force of our country. SEWA’s main goals are to organize women workers for full employment. Full employment means employment whereby workers obtain work security, income security, food security and social security (at least health care, child care and shelter). SEWA organizes women to ensure that every family obtains full employment. By self-reliance we mean that women should be autonomous and self-reliant, individually and collectively, both economically and in terms of their decision-making ability

Transfair (Fair Trade) - is a nonprofit organization, one of twenty members of Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO), and the only third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States. TransFair audits transactions between US companies offering Fair Trade CertifiedTM products and the international suppliers from whom they source, in order to guarantee that the farmers and farm workers behind Fair Trade Certified goods were paid a fair, above-market price.

Careers

Merdian House International - is a non-partisan, not-for-profit public diplomacy institution dedicated to strengthening international understanding. Meridian builds sustainable global partnerships through leadership exchanges, international collaboration and cultural diplomacy.

Nature Conservancy - offers environmentally-oriented jobs, some international.
