Saman Aryana, Faculty Fellow

photograph of saman_aryanaDr. Saman Aryana is the Occidental Chair in Energy and Environmental Technologies and a member of the faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Wyoming. He recently founded and served as the first president of the Northern States Section of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Prior to joining UW, Dr. Aryana served as a reservoir engineer as part of an asset management team at Occidental Petroleum Inc. Dr. Aryana earned a PhD in Energy Resources Engineering at Stanford University in 2012. He completed an MS in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas – Arlington in 2006 with a focus on Structures and Applied Mechanics where he also graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Civil Engineering in 2003. Dr. Aryana worked as a consulting engineer for several years in Texas where he is registered as a Professional Engineer. The main thrust of his research is the study of multiscale, multiphysics systems at the nexus of energy, water and the environment with a focus on transport and mass transfer. He aims to develop a plan for joint online and student-exchange programs between UW and sister institutions of higher learning. Dr. Aryana is interested in ways the University of Wyoming can best utilize new technologies to broaden its impact and reach in the state, nationally and across the globe.
