Financing your Graduate Degree

All students admitted to the University of Wyoming's Department of Chemistry are fully funded through Graduate Teaching and Graduate Research Assistantships.  By submitting your application to the department, you are simultaneously requesting funding; no additional steps are required.

University of Wyoming's department of chemistry offers graduate assistantships to all graduate studentsTeaching Assistantships

An annual stipend of $25,500 total a year + a full tuition and fee waiver + medical insurance.  All students admitted to the graduate program will be supported by a teaching assistantship during their first year contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Chemistry Department Fellowship

$27,500 to $30,000 for the first year + a full tuition waiver + medical insurance. Department of Chemistry fellowships are limited and are reserved for outstanding candidates. Fellowship selection is made on a competitive basis. Fellowships are often awarded for a single year. In the second year, Fellows normally revert to either a teaching or research assistantship with a minimum stipend of $25,500 per year.

Distinguished Graduate Fellowship

The distinguished graduate fellowship will be offered to outstanding Ph.D. applicants. The fellowship entails $25,000 TA annual stipend and a $8,000 augmentation. The fellowship will be distributed as $5,000 for the first academic year and $3,000 for the first summer.

Minimum requirements to be considered for the fellowship:

  • GPA of ≥ 3.00
  • GRE of ≥ 317
  • Strong letters of recommendation

*Maintenance of all assistantships is contingent upon satisfactory progress toward degree requirements and subject to available funding. Students unable to teach and who do not qualify for a Doctoral Academic Fellowship will receive a $21,500 stipend + tuition and fees.

Under-Represented Domestic Minority Graduate Assistantships

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Wyoming is excited to announce two new GA positions for the fall semester of 2018. These positions are available exclusively to incoming graduate students from Under-Represented Domestic Minorities (URDMs) who are seeking for doctoral or master’s degree in Chemistry. URDM students are defined as American born or naturalized (domestic) students from an under-represented minority, including students of African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Alaskan native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, or Asian descent.
