Degree Requirements

Masters Degrees  (2 years average completion time):

  • Plan A, Thesis: 26 Hours of Graduate Coursework, 4 Hours of Thesis Research, and a Thesis
  • Plan B, Non-Thesis: 30 Hours of Graduate Coursework and a "Plan B Paper"
     

Doctoral Degrees  (3-5 years typical completion times):

Application Process

To apply, click here. In addition, payment of a $50.00 application fee is required. This fee cannot be waived.

 

Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Scores

Official scores are required for admission. Please do not request an exception.

A minimum score of at least 298 total on the GRE Test Score.

Send your GRE scores directly from the testing agency to the University of Wyoming. Use the following codes:

  • Institution Code: 4855
  • Department code: 1102

You can request additional score reports at www.gre.org. Our graduate program committee accepts photocopies for review purposes.

 

TOEFL Scores

Send your TOEFL scores directly from the testing agency to the University of Wyoming. Use the following codes:

You can request additional score reports at www.toefl.org.

We expect minimum scores of: 550 paper-based, 76 internet-based, or 6.0 IELTS.

 

Graduate Admissions Application

In the application, you will be asked to upload documents and submit references for the initial departmental review. Please make sure to upload all the requested documents and submit all necessary references. You will not need to have official transcripts, test scores, or additional documents sent to UW Admissions for the initial departmental review. If recommended for admission by the department, you will then need to have official transcripts sent from all colleges or universities you have attended and official test scores (GRE/GMAT-if required for department admission, TOEFL/IELTS-for international applicants) sent from the testing agency to the Office of Admissions (ETS UW school code: 4855). Any additional documents required by UW Admissions for formal admission will be requested at this time as well.

Assistantships & Funding

When you apply you will automatically be considered for fully-funded positions as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant; there is no separate application required. You may also be admitted without funding.

 

Application Deadlines

Deadlines for full consideration of financial assistantships are as follows:

  • Fall Semester Admission - March 1
  • Spring Semester Admission - October 15

 

Applications submitted after the deadlines will still be considered for admission and possible research support but will not be considered for teaching assistantships and department administered fellowships.
