Realizing that students sometimes face unexpected emergencies,
Cowboy Parents established the Student Emergency Fund in 1991. Students
confronting crisis situations may contact the director of the Student
Financial Aid Office at 174 Knight Hall or (307) 766-3790 for possible
assistance.
The fund has helped students traveling for funerals, funded urgent
medical or dental procedures, covered the costs of books and supplies
when fire destroyed a student's home, helped replace a student's
textbook and calculator stolen just before midterms, and many other
difficulties demanding money up front.
The dollars provided through this fund are not a loan, but students
receiving support are encouraged to repay the fund if possible so that
other students also may benefit. We are proud to say that UW students
have a strong track record of replacing these dollars when they have the
resources to do so.
