Restorative Communities Leadership Workshop Series:

This is a 5-week workshop held each semester to inform members of the UW, Laramie, and Albany County community about restorative practices while training participants to design, facilitate and implement talking circles in their own communities.

Testimonials:

“This workshop made me more confident in my leadership and facilitation skills. I got to learn important philosophy around RJ, participate in several circle talks, and even design and lead one myself. I will use these skills in my professional life, my personal life, and in any situation where I am working with people”.- Darrah S.

“I think it is important to know that the Restorative Communities Leadership Workshop challenges traditional conceptions of justice, in some ways, and is a great way to learn how to listen to others and better communicate tensions and problems that need to be addressed”.- Lydia E

“I was very drawn to the idea of learning ways to resolve conflict and issues that arise within a community without resorting to some retributive and harmful systems. In this workshop, I was exposed to methods of healing within communities that prioritize the individual's humanity whether they were in the wrong or not. Particularly, I really appreciated learning about how the use of specific language and community responses lead to negative emotions for the harming party that might not benefit them in the long run. I also really appreciated learning about the concept of talking circles to address harm, build community, and facilitate dialogue”. - Dalal B

Community Member Volunteer Training:

A training held once a semester for interested parties to be able to serve as the Community Member Volunteer during a restorative conference. The community member volunteer voices the needs of the community during the harm repair process, offers insight for the parties to hear, and connects the responsible party to meaningful agreement items that might have otherwise been overlooked or not yet made aware.

Community Outreach:

We are happy to come to your classroom, your student org, your department, your office or your space in the broader community to deliver workshops and exposure to RJ practices and concepts. Don’t hesitate to reach out, we love community outreach!
