The Steamboat Society

Steamboat was regarded as one of the greatest bucking horses ever, gaining notoriety in the early 1900s as the undisputed “worst bucker.” The 1,100-pound black bronc with three white stockings was said to have bested almost all of the cowboys who tried to ride him, and at that time bucking horses were ridden to a standstill, rather than for eight seconds.

In essence, Steamboat is Wyoming. He represents the best in us. His indomitable spirit, his rugged toughness, his strength. He worked hard and wouldn’t quit. The 1920 UW baseball team was the first to adopt Steamboat as its logo, and he’s been with us ever since, an emblem of what it means to support the University of Wyoming.

 

Your Support

As the University of Wyoming’s premier annual giving society, the Steamboat Society (formerly the President’s Society) is reserved exclusively for those loyal supporters whose generosity totals $1,000 or more each year.

Because of you and your wonderful support, our students engage in a wide range of extraordinary learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom, on and off campus, at home, and across the globe. Thanks to your private giving, they will continue to develop, with the help of dedicated faculty, into tomorrow’s thought leaders and achievers.

 

Membership

Those who give $1,000 or more to the University of Wyoming as one gift or a combination of gifts during one fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) are recognized as members of the Steamboat Society. 

Morevover, we are partnering with the University Bookstore to offer Steamboat Society members discounts on selected purchases. New this year, mention you are a member of the Steamboat Society at checkout to receive your discount.
