All members of Interfraternity Council practice ‘Open Recruitment,’ which means that they are able to recruit year-round. These chapters include Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. IFC will typically host a Meet and Greet-style event early in the semester to allow interested students to meet and interact with chapters and learn about their individual recruitment process or events. While many chapters will focus their recruitment efforts for the first couple weeks of each semester, they can take members in throughout the year. Some chapters will conduct recruitment through various events, while others will focus on one on one meetings; each process is permissible.
Per IFC regulations, prospective members can only be recruited if they have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Some chapters have an internal requirement that is higher, so it is important to inquire about academic requirements to join.
The Interfraternity Council and the national policies of each member IFC organization dictate that all recruitment activities must be substance-free that is the use of alcohol and/or drugs is not permitted. Chapters that are found to violate this recruitment and campus policy are subject to judicial proceedings through the Fraternal Standards Board and/or the Dean of Students Office.
