Communication is critical for effective natural resource management. Yet it is an area in which even seasoned professionals struggle, reducing the opportunity to inform and engage stakeholders in natural resource management decisions. Communicating scientific and technical information and conducting effective public outreach requires professionals who are trained and equipped in strategic written and oral communications. It also requires skills in communicating to a variety of audiences: the media, stakeholder groups, decision-makers, and the general public.
In this workshop, participants will design a strategic communications plan for a natural resource issue in Wyoming, include messages and written products for successful rollout. The workshop will also cover how to determine what is "newsworthy" to gain winning media coverage. Participants will learn about crisis communications and how to maximize public speaking opportunities. This applied workshop incorporates role-playing, on-camera mock interviews, and generating a news release based on scenarios and issues in Wyoming.
Workshop runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first day and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second day. Lunch is provided.
