Mary Ellbogen Garland, Doctor of Laws (LL.D.)

Philanthropic vision and a mission to support excellence in teaching and learning drive Mary Ellbogen Garland in her efforts to support the children, teachers, and the families of Wyoming. A lifelong resident of Wyoming with a distinguished family history, Mary and her husband Rob continue to build a legacy of commitment to the state and University of Wyoming. Mary graduated from UW in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in marketing. Her passion for investing in those issues that are important to her extends far beyond the stewardship roles she holds with the family foundations established in her mother's and father's names. She maintains a record of deep engagement in community, state, and national organizations and continually works to build systemic support for initiatives that will make lasting contributions to Wyoming. Mary leads a wide range of projects in the state, persuasively tackling issues related to drug abuse, troubled youth, health and wellness, geriatric well-being, and leadership development. But her greatest achievements have shaped education in Wyoming, particularly emphasizing the importance of early childhood experiences in shaping individual and societal successes and failures and working to ensure effective classroom education in the state's educational system.
