Concurrent Enrollment

Enrolling for Classes at Other Institutions

Students may enroll for class at another school concurrently with their UW enrollment.  Any classes taken at another institution must be considered for credit at UW, per USCIS regulations.  ISS can write a permission letter, if necessary, to the other school only after the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement, and other necessary documents, have been received by ISS.

If the concurrent enrollment will not count toward your full-time enrollment at UW:

  • Submit the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement to ISS.  You may request a permission letter, if required by the other school, only after ISS receives the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement.
  • At the completion of your class, submit and OFFICIAL transcript from that school to the UW Office of the Registrar.  While there is no USCIS regulation that you do this, you will not be considered for credit at UW until the official transcript is received

If the concurrent enrollment will count toward your full-time enrollment at UW, you must:

  • Submit the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement and proof of enrollment to ISS BEFORE dropping a class at UW, or by the SEVIS deadline at the beginning of the semester.  If you drop below full-time at UW without submitting the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement and proof of enrollment to ISS, you will be considered in violation of your immigration status and your SEVIS record will be terminated.

*It is your responsibility to keep a copy of the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement and submit the official transcripts within 2 weeks of the end of the UW semester.

  • At the completion of your class, submit an OFFICIAL transcript from that school to the UW Office of the Registrar.  The Office of the Registrar must receive the official transcript within two weeks of the end of the UW semester.  Please note: student is responsible for paying all tuition and fees at the second school.  Failure to pay does not excuse the requirement to submit the official transcript to UW on time.

*Students who do not submit the official transcript on time will be considered to have violated the full-time enrollment requirement as UW ISS would have no proof that you have complete the course. Your SEVIS record will be terminated for failure to maintain full-time enrollment.
