Past Trips

Scotland, Spring 2023

In May 2023, Dr Siceloff, from the Division of Kinesiology and Health, and Dr Jamie Snyder, Criminal Justice, traveled to Scotland with a group of 10 students. This course explored the intersection between crime, fear and physical activity within urban, suburban, and rural outdoor areas of Scotland.

  • Details on how the credits will transfer will need to be determined by the UW department that has coursework in the same area.  

 

 

University of Stirling (SCOTLAND) 

  • University in Scotland, in the delightful, historical town of Stirling  
  • Beautiful, modern campus with world class sports facilities 
  • Highly respected Sports Science program  
  • Just an example of some of the classes offered:  
  • Sport Development, Management, Coaching, Policy  
  • Many other Kinesiology related courses  
  • Semester Options:  
  • Semester 1:  September – December 
  • Semester: 2:  January – May  
  • Can attend for a semester or an entire year

Queensland University of Technology (AUSTRALIA) 

  • Located in the urban coastal city of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia  
  • Must have completed at least one year of college, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be nominated by the University of Wyoming (see note on Exchange Programs below) 
  • Example of Classes in School of Exercise and Nutrition:  
  • Exercise Psychology, Physical Activity and Health, Sport and Exercise Across Lifespan, Teaching Primary Health and Physical Education 
  • Example of Classes in School of Public Health and Social Work:  
  • Health Education and Behavior Change, Health Needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, Australian Heath Care Systems, Public Health Practice, Sustainable Environment for Health

University College Dublin (IRELAND) 

  • Study in city of Dublin, Ireland at Ireland’s Global University 
  • Examples of classes in Pre-Physical Therapy Program:  
  • Physiology, Exercise Science, Biomechanics, Psychology of Sport and Health, European Healthcare 
  • Examples of classes in Sport and Exercise Program: 
  • Changing Physical Activity Behavior, Event Management, Fundamentals of Strength and Conditioning, Introduction to Exercise Science, Skill Acquisition, Sport Media, Sports Tourism  
  • Short-term Summer Programs may also be available  
  • 2023 they offered two-week courses in Global Public Health and Sports Studies; varies by year

  • Autumn Trimester:  September – December 
  • Spring Trimester: January – May  
  • Summer Trimester:  May – August   (Note, some summer classes may be shorter)

University of Brighton (ENGLAND) 

  • Study in the coastal city of Brighton in Southern England  
  • Sophomore standing required, 2.75 GPA minimum 
  • Classes vary by semester but the School of Sport and Health Sciences offers a wide range of undergraduate classes in Sport and Exercise Science  
  • Semester Options: 
  • Autumn:  September – December 
  • Spring: January – March 
  • Summer:  April - June

University of Essex (England) 

  • Study in the county of Essex in southeast England, between London and the North Sea. Essex is known for its coast being one of the longest of any English county, and it is one of the best places to live in the UK. 
  • Academic requirement: You must be in a good academic standing at your home institution. Please check the modules you would like to take at Essex for any pre-requisites. 
  • You can study abroad at Essex for a term or year: 
  • Autumn Term (October-December) 
  • Spring/Summer Terms (January-June) 
  • Academic Year (October-June) 
  • Calendar Year (January-December) 

Full year students must take 120 Essex Credits, which is usually eight modules 
Term-only students must take 60 Essex Credits, which is usually four modules 

Note: These credits are different than how we consider credits in the US!  

  • Application Deadlines: 
  • Fall entry: May 31 
  • Spring entry: November 1 

U of Essex is part of ISEP and UW is recognized as one of partner universities in North America for student exchange

Griffith University (Australia: Gold Coast or Brisbane campus) 

  • Both campuses are in east coast of Australia close to the most beautiful beaches 
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 
  • Trimester 1: February to June / Trimester 2: July to October 
  • Application deadlines: Nov 1 for Trimester 1 / Apr 1 for Trimester 2

Deakin University (Australia: Melbourne / Twin Geelong / Warrnambool) 

  • Campus locations: Melbourne (“the world’s most livable city”), twin Geelong (think beaches), or Warrnambool (ideal for marine and freshwater science) 
  • Minimum GPA: 2.6 
  • Trimester 1: February to June / Trimester 2: July to October 
  • Application deadlines: Oct 1 for Trimester 1 / Mar 15 for Trimester 2

University of South Australia (Australia: Adelaide) 

  • Campus locations: Adelaide is Australia’s education city and the capital of the state of South Australia, it has all the advantages of big city life yet is small enough to get around easily. Adelaide has one of the highest standards of living of any city in the world yet is one of the least expensive.  
  • Minimum GPA: 2.75 
  • Trimester 1: February to June / Trimester 2: July to October 
  • UW Application deadlines: must be nominated by Education Abroad Coordinator to UniSA 
  • Fall/Academic Year Programs: March 15 
  • Summer Programs: March 15 
  • Spring Semester Programs: October 15 
  • UniSA Application deadlines: Fall: April 15 / Spring: November 15
