Before coming to the University of Wyoming, Professor Kearley was Foreign, Comparative, & International Law Librarian and Associate Director of the Law Library at the University of Illinois College of Law and then Director of the Law Library and Professor of Law at Louisiana State University Law Center. 

Professor Kearley teaches International Security Law. He also has been a visiting professor at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia and at the University of Washington in Seattle. Professor Kearley has been a Fulbright research grant recipient and is co-author of Guide to Foreign Legal Materials: German. Currently, his research interests revolve around the use of force in international law and Roman law.
