Student Legal Clinics

University of Wyoming College of Law offers student clinicals to provide experienceStudent Legal Clinics are a program offered to UW Law students to expose students to a wide range of real experiences in the practice of law.  Caseloads are actual cases, and students work with approved Law faculty and the client to work on the case.  It is not a simulation.

Six student legal clinics are offered in:

  1. Defender Aid

  2. Civil Legal Services

  3. Family and Child Legal Advocacy

  4. Prosecution Assistance

  5. International Human Rights

  6. Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources

Student Eligibility:

  1. The programs are available during the summer between the students' second and third years of law school and during the academic year to third-year students.

  2. Students receive three credit hours per semester, graded Satisfactory-Unsatisfactory.

  3. Students are required to devote a minimum of 150 hours to the program.

  4. Enrollment may be limited in the interest of affording students maximum educational benefit. However, every effort is made to accommodate each student who desires the benefits of clinical experience.

Clinical Faculty:

A full-time, tenure-track faculty member directly supervises each clinical program. There are no adjunct or staff members between the faculty supervisors and student interns. A student director is appointed for each program to help the faculty supervisor administer the program.

The faculty supervisor is professionally responsible for the students in the program. Therefore, particular emphasis is placed on professional responsibility to the client, the profession, and the community.
