The University of Wyoming College of Law held the annual Hirst Applegate student Trial Competition with the finals round commencing on October 24th. The competition is a hands-on learning opportunity for law students to develop and practice their trial advocacy skills before distinguished members of the bar and bench.
Four member Law student teams competed in several mock trials during the preliminary
rounds of the competition.
The winning team was comprised of: Isaiah Gross-Rapid City, SD, Graham Hersh-Denver,
CO, Andrew Priebe-Centennial, CO and Grant Smith-Conrad, MT. Members of the second
place team were: Sean Deveau-Cheyenne, WY, Jonathan McCoy-Cheyenne, WY, Laura Petrilli-Longmont,
CO, and Holli Welch-Cody, WY.
Practicing attorneys and judges from Wyoming volunteered to serve as judges for the competition. Albany County District Court Judge J.A. Donnell served as the presiding judge for the finals. Wyoming Supreme Court Justice Michael K. Davis, College of Law Dean Stephen Easton, and Robert C. Jarosh from Hirst Applegate, LLP served as judges and evaluators for the final round of the competition.
“I was extremely impressed with the students on both teams that participated in the finals. The high quality of their preparation and presentations is a testament to the quality of education provided by the University of Wyoming College of Law” said Rob Jarosh, Managing Partner of Hirst Applegate.
The winning team will compete in a Regional Student Trial Advocacy Competition sponsored by the American Association for Justice on March 20 – 23, 2014.
