Professor Tara Righetti delivered the annual Liskow Visiting Professor Lecture in Energy Law on November 14 at Louisiana State University Law Center. The lecture, titled “Land and Regulatory Consequences of Carbon Sequestration Well Classifications,” attracted an audience of LSU students, faculty, administrators, and members of the public. Staff attorneys and officials from Louisiana state government also attended.

Prior to joining the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2014, Righetti served in legal and executive roles in a privately owned upstream oil and gas company. She currently holds the Occidental Chair in Energy and Environmental Policy at the School of Energy Resources and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources.

Righetti’s research focuses on subsurface property law and administrative regulation of energy development and industrial decarbonization technologies, including nuclear energy and carbon capture and storage. Righetti teaches oil and gas law, climate law, the governance and regulation of geoengineering, and advanced energy technologies.

The Liskow Visiting Professor in Energy Law Lecture was established in 2013 through an endowed gift from the Liskow law firm. The professorship provides funds to bring distinguished scholars in energy law and closely related fields to LSU Law. In addition to delivering the lecture on CCS, Righetti met with a mineral rights class and an introduction to environmental law class.
