Chinese Language and Culture

Chinese Program Overview:

Welcome to the Chinese Program which is one of the best language programs at UW.   Chinese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world—close to 1.5 billion people, more than one fifth of the world’s population. Our Chinese program is dedicated to preparing students with a solid foundation in Chinese language and culture, expanding worldview, enhancing employment opportunities, increasing global leadership abilities, and improving academic, professional, and financial future potential.

UW Chinese program offers an innovative Chinese language curriculum with a wide range of classes in Chinese, from beginning to advanced levels; business Chinese, Chinese film, and culture classes are offered as well. Our dedicated instructor Yan Zhang is a certified ACTFL OPI Tester, and the recipient of multiple teaching awards. She works closely with the students in and out of the classroom. The UW Chinese program offers rich opportunities and resources for students to excel in the learning of the Chinese language.  We offer the Chinese minor program (5 semester’s completion), and a Summer study abroad and internship program in China.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact the Chinese Program Director, Yan Zhang, at  yzhang@uwyo.edu.  Better Program, Better Future!

Chinese Minor Program

A minimum of 18 credit hours must be taken in Chinese language courses including successful completion of 6 hours of Chinese language courses beyond CHIN 2030 on campus, and a 9-week Summer intensive study abroad program with a 1- week internship in China.  If the students pass the exams successfully in China, 12 credits (9 out of 12 credits will be upper-division) will be awarded and applied to the Chinese Minor.  Students minoring in Chinese are recommended to pursue masters programs in China with a full-ride Chinese government scholarship.
