This is a 21-credit hour principal preparation program that leads to a UW Principal Endorsement Certificate and Wyoming endorsement as a K-12 principal. To be certified by PTSB as a principal in Wyoming, an applicant must hold or be able to obtain a teaching certificate and have at least three years of teaching in a school setting.
The program is designed for those who (a) already have a closely related master’s degree (this does not guarantee admission to this program) and appropriate educational experience, (b) seekendorsement to supplement a current UW master’s degree in progress, or (c) wish to take courses in educational leadership as electives. The program does not lead to a master’s degree. Those seeking a master’s degree should apply to the master’s degree program offered by the Department of Educational Leadership.
Focusing on our mission to develop effective educational leaders and researchers, the program includes four core coursescurrently offered in two locations in the state, Casper and Rock Springs. The four core courses are scheduled for three weekends, usually Friday night and Saturday, and may include video conferencing or online components. The program also includes a comprehensive internship. The remaining course, Introduction to Research, is offered both online and on-campus.
