The Graduate Assistantship Application is Available!

Departmental Graduate Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis and generally cover: all tuition, most fees, student health insurance and a monthly stipend in exchange for working within the department in teaching and research capacities.

We also welcome applications from Veterans with the GI Bill.


Scholarships

Fred Homer Memorial Prize

The Fred Homer Prize is bestowed upon a student, undergraduate or graduate, at the University of Wyoming for exceptional performance on a paper relating to political philosophy in its applications to the life well led, government, society, and citizenship written during the previous calendar year (spring, summer, or fall term).

Papers considered for the Fred Homer Prize may originate in courses in Political Science, American Studies, Philosophy, UW Honors Program, or other appropriate disciplines; master's theses or other capstone projects in a master's program in Political Science, American Studies, Philosophy, or other appropriate disciplines. Original research projects conducted for the Fred Homer Prize also will be considered. Click here for more information on the Homer Memorial Prize.

Recipients will be nominated and chosen by faculty in political theory from the Department of Political Science with a representative from the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Simpson Award for Outstanding Graduate Paper in Political Science

One $500 award will be given for the most Outstanding Graduate Paper written for a 5000-level Political Science course during the previous calendar year (spring, summer, or fall term), as selected by the Simpson Scholarship Committee.

The Simpson Award for Outstanding MA Graduate Student in Political Science

One $750 award will be given to the most Outstanding Graduate Student enrolled in the M.A. program in Political Science during the previous academic year, as nominated and selected by Department of Political Science faculty.

The Simpson Award for Outstanding On-Campus MPA Student in Political Science

One $750 award will be given to the most Outstanding On-Campus Graduate Student enrolled in the MPA program in Political Science during the previous academic year, as nominated and selected by Department of Political Science MPA faculty.

The Simpson Award for Outstanding Off-Campus MPA Student in Political Science

One $750 award will be given to the most Outstanding Off-Campus Graduate Student enrolled in the MPA program in Political Science during the previous academic year, as nominated and selected by Department of Political Science MPA faculty.

John P. Ellbogen International Studies Internship/Research Excellence Fund & The International Studies Internship Grant

Undergraduate and graduate international studies majors are invited to apply for a stipend to support an internationally-focused internship or research field work. Stipends will be awarded for both domestic and internationally-based internships; field work for research must be internationally-based. Stipends will vary based on financial need and quality of the proposal, with the highest award being $2500. Preference will be given to students in unpaid internships and to graduate students whose field work will significantly further their progress toward their degree. Applications for internships will be considered continually throughout the year. Deadline February 25, 2018. Early applications are accepted! Students will be notified within 2-3 weeks after the application deadline. Incomplete and late applications will NOT be accepted!
