Dr. Teena Gabrielson

Academic Areas of Expertise:

History of Political Thought, Environmental Political Theory, American Political Thought and Citizenship Studies


Teena's research interests include American political thought and contemporary environmental political thought with a focus on conceptions of citizenship and the normative and strategic implications that stem from adopting a particular understanding. Currently, Teena is working on a new project that adopts the "normalized toxic body" as an entry point for theorizing core political concepts such as autonomy, agency and inclusion in contemporary political life. Her work has appeared in American Journal of Political Science, Citizenship Studies, Environmental Politics, Political Research Quarterly, Theory & Event and elsewhere.

Teena teaches modern and contemporary political philosophy, American Political Thought, Environmental Justice, Classics in Environmental Thought, and a seminar entitled Theories and Practices of Citizenship. She has received several awards of excellence for her teaching from the University of California, Davis, Southwestern University and the University of Wyoming.

Fun Facts About Teena:

Teena was born and raised in Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree from Macalester College and moved to Northern California where she earned her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of California, Davis. Despite the spring, or late winter, Teena loves Wyoming weather.
