Wellness Ambassadors Program

Are you interested in promoting health and wellness at the University of Wyoming?  Do you want to gain leadership experience that you can apply to your future career?  Do you want to meet people and have fun?  If yes, then consider applying for the Wellness Ambassadors Program!

Our goal is to provide training, support, and opportunities for UW students to become leaders in campus health promotion.  The program is open to any undergraduate or graduate student interested in promoting health and wellness at the University of Wyoming.

What Do We Do?

Wellness Ambassadors promote health and wellness in the ten areas of focus of the Wellness Center: academic impacts (stress, sleep, anxiety), general health, mental health, nutrition, physical activity and fitness, safety, sexual health, tobacco use, and occupational and financial wellness.  We provide research-based education that is guided by the objectives in Healthy Campus 2020 and data from the National College Health Assessment.  As a Wellness Ambassador, you can staff a resource table, promote Wellness Center programs and services, organize and participate in health awareness events and educational programs, serve as a resource person, conduct health screenings, and participate in health coalitions and advisory boards, among other options.

What's In It For Me?

There are a lot of benefits for being a Wellness Ambassador.  Here are some, just to name a few:

  • Receive a letter of recommendation at the end of year.  You can submit this for job or scholarship or graduate school applications.
  • Receive a certificate of participation.  Frame this and put it on your wall; and put it on your resume.
  • Attend the Wellness Awards Banquet.
  • Participation counts toward achievement of the Health Leadership Certificate.
  • Free t-shirt!
  • Develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and program coordination.
  • Enhance communication skills, public speaking, and networking.
  • Increase your knowledge of health and wellness issues through specialized training.
  • Collaborate with various student organizations and campus departments.
  • Develop skills and accomplishments for a stronger resume.
  • Receive mentoring and personal/career development.
  • Meet new people and have fun!

What are the Qualifications?

  • 2.8 GPA or above.  If you are a first semester freshmen, you can still apply.
  • Strong interest in health promotion and wellness.
  • Ability to commit minimum of four hours per month.
  • Desire to help other students.
  • Support and model health and healthy choices in the ten areas of focus (doesn't mean be perfect--nobody is!)
  • Good time management skills.
  • Responsible and reliable.
  • Non-judgmental attitude.
