We seek an outstanding scientist who conducts mechanistic studies to address basic or translational questions in broadly defined sensory biology fields. Candidates with a variety of expertise including but not limited to cellular, molecular, genomic, physiological, and behavioral approaches will be considered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position offers outstanding research resources associated with the newly established, federally funded Wyoming Sensory Biology Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in addition to a competitive salary and startup package. The candidate will be expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program that complements the expertise of our current faculty. The successful candidate is expected to utilize and strengthen the many core facilities at the University of Wyoming, including the newly funded Integrated Microscopy Core Facility, Animal Vivarium, Red Buttes Environmental Biology Laboratory, and the Center for Advanced Scientific Imaging.

The candidate is expected to teach in the core courses of the Physiology Undergraduate Degree and also offer an undergraduate/graduate elective course that will help diversify the current Physiology offerings.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

The Sensory Biologist will be a member of the Neuroscience interdisciplinary graduate program and contribute to doctoral graduate education through that program, in addition to training MS and PhD students in Zoology and Physiology.  The candidate will be expected to mentor graduate students in all aspects of the generation of original publishable research.

Qualifications

Assistant professors shall normally hold the terminal qualification in their discipline (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., MFA, etc.), and shall have demonstrated ability, through appropriate experience, to perform the functions of the position they are to hold.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a doctoral degree, postdoctoral experience in sensory biology, physiology, or related field, and evidence of an exceptional research record.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Multiple publications in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.  University teaching experience as the instructor of record. Evidence of ability to secure external grant funding in support of research.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

Complete the online application and upload the following for a complete application: 1) a cover letter, 2) a research and teaching statement, 3) CV, 4) three representative publications, and 5) and contact information for four work-related references.

Although applications will continue to be considered until the position is filled, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by February 1, 2019. The University of Wyoming conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer. Questions may be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Qian-Quan Sun (neuron@uwyo.edu).
