Welcome to the ASUW Students' Attorney Program (SAP) website. This website and service is brought to you by the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW), with support from the Dean of Students office.
The ASUW Students' Attorney Program offers legal services to all fee paying UW students. The Program is funded through the allocation of a portion of the ASUW fee paid each semester by fee paying students. The consultation services provided by the Students' Attorney Program are free, therefore, to those students who have prepaid their fee packages. There is, however, a $20.00 document fee assessed for the preparation of a binding legal document such as a will or a contract. All legal services provided are performed by a fully licensed attorney and all consultation sessions are in person and confidential. Notarial service is also offered by the Program.
The information provided in this site is meant to be general in nature. Although every effort has been made to ensure its accuracy, the law is continually changing, and therefore, this site should not be used as a substitute for legal advice. It is highly recommended that anyone accessing this site consult with an attorney licensed in the State of Wyoming before taking any action based upon the information available in this site.
The Students' Attorney Program cannot represent students in court proceedings, but can and does assist in problem resolution through nonlitigative services. The Program also has some forms available for students and can provide information on the common legal difficulties encountered by students through the innumerable free brochures and publications available in the office. These materials include information on landlord/tenant law in Wyoming, debt collection issues, credit issues, et cetera. In general, the Program cannot assist a student in problem resolution if the student's issue is in conflict with another student or UW, but referrals to UW or outside resources may be provided.
The Students' Attorney Program cannot assist anyone who is not a fee paying student member of the UW community.
